Anti Doping Policy

The Scottish Women’s Bowling Association will conform to the UK Anti Doping Policy as published by UK Anti-Doping (or its successor) as amended from time to time, and the 100%ME education programme provided by UK Anti-Doping which is aimed at enhancing the understanding of drug-free sport within the UK sporting community. We are fully committed to providing our members with relevant and up to date information on current anti-doping rules and regulations.

Within the requirements of the World Anti-Doping Code it is ultimately the responsibility of individual athletes to abide by the strict liability principles outlined. This means that athletes are personally responsible for any Prohibited Substance found in their system regardless of how it was ingested.

To assist competitors in meeting the legislation within the UK Anti-Doping Rules, the following information provides important guidance to competing athletes.

Checking Medications

Many medications available for common conditions, such as asthma or hay fever, prescribed medications from a doctor or products over the counter in pharmacies may contain substances in the Prohibited list published by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

To ensure that, as an athlete, you are complying with the UK Anti-Doping Code, the advice from UK Anti-Doping is simple – check every single substance or medication before you use it, even if you have used it before.

Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE)

The Therapeutic Use Exemption process can give the athlete a means of obtaining approval to use a Prohibited Substance and/or Prohibited Method for the treatment of a legitimate medical condition.

  • It is necessary to inform all medical personnel that you must abide by the anti-doping rules of your sport. Any medical treatment you receive must not violate these rules.
  • When prescribed a substance or method, check if your medication is prohibited.

For more information on applying for a TUE please contact: The Scottish Women’s Bowling Association Drug Liaison Officer C/O SWBA Head Office - Tel: 01786 449012 or e-mail: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Declaration of Use

A Declaration of Use certificate is also available for athletes using some prohibited substances in the form of inhalers and medications related to asthmatic conditions. These certificates are completed online and further details can be found at: http://www.ukad.org.uk/forms/declaration/

Scottish Young Bowlers Association National Finals

The Scottish Bowling Association and the Scottish Women’s Bowling Association are pleased to announce that the Scottish Young Bowlers Association National Finals will be added to the combined S. B. A. / S. W. B. A. National Finals at Northfield, Ayr.

The addition of the Youth finals to the full Scottish Finals allows the young bowlers to compete at the combined finals and gives a platform for the best young bowlers from around the country to perform in front of a larger audience at Northfield.

The youth finals will be played to a conclusion on the Tuesday of the full championships, adding another day to an already busy week of bowling events at the Northfield venue.
